Blog Statistics - OSes and Browsers
September 4th 2010Here at greybeardedgeek.net, I use the excellent StatPress WordPress plug-in to gather site statistics.
I just took a look at the stats for Operating Systems and Browsers.
What I found was a little surprising, and, as a software developer, frankly, I found it a bit depressing.
Here's the raw stats:
| O.S. | Visits |
| Windows XP | 42245 |
| Linux | 10186 |
| Ubuntu Linux | 8152 |
| Windows Vista | 6212 |
| Mac OS X | 4324 |
| Windows NT 4 | 3712 |
| Windows 2000 | 2660 |
| Windows Server 2003 | 1533 |
| Windows 7 | 984 |
| Windows ME | 807 |
| Browser | Visits |
| Firefox 3 | 32813 |
| Internet Explorer 6 | 22523 |
| Generic Gecko | 5654 |
| Internet Explorer 7 | 5247 |
| Chrome | 4686 |
| Opera | 2994 |
| Safari | 2818 |
| Mozilla | 2810 |
| Internet Explorer 8 | 2213 |
| Internet Explorer 5 | 1801 |
So, what's depressing?
- People are still using Windows 2000 and Windows ME
- Windows 7 usage is still as low as Windows ME usage
- This is mainly a developer-oriented blog, and a significant number of visitors are using Windows ME !
- More visitors are using IE 6 than IE 7
- More visitors are using IE 7 than IE 8
- People are still using IE 5? (Must be the ME users...)
- Significantly more visitors are using IE 6 than IE 7, IE 8, and IE 5 combined, which causes the need for stuff like "How to Fix 25+ IE6 Bugs"...argh!
On the other hand, Linux, OS X, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari all make respectable showings, so all is not lost...
